Rhythm 'n Brains

By Russella Altamirano
University Honors has provided its students with a close-knit community and many have built lifelong memories and made recognizable contributions to the wider community. Among these contributions is the newly approved UCR student organization, Rhythm&Brains (R&B).
R&B is a music performance group founded by first year Honors students, Jericha Viduya, R.K. Lomarda, Dennise Shin, and Gilbert Solomon who first met at the Summer University Honors Program Talent Show in 2012. Jericha Viduya, a Biology major, defines the club’s mission statement as, “A music group that allows
any musicians from different genres to perform and use their musical talents to raise funds for the homeless in Riverside [though not limited to this population] and... to get students involved in collaborating with homeless [musicians].” The group’s goal is not only to promote academicexcellence, but also to raise awareness for community needs through their passion for music. In the short time since they first formed, R&B has already contributed to the community in amazing ways such as Christmas caroling at Totally Kids Specialty Healthcare in Loma Linda, performing at Not So Sharp’s Fall Concert, and at University Honors’ Spoken Word Event.
If you are interested in joining, then you are in luck because R&B is open to all UCR students. Although auditions are required for performances, anyone is able to join the fun as R&B officer applications will be sent out soon, along with the first general meeting information, which is TBA. R&B can be contacted through their e-mail, rhythmandbrains@gmail.com. Their videos can be seen on their Youtube channel, http://www.youtube.com/user/RhythmAndBrains?feature=watch
